This building serves a dual purpose: the Ford Automobile Showroom and the Banco de San Jose/Credomatic Branch Office. The terrain has a steep gradient and a 140-meter frontage. The architectural solution proposes a building with successive terraces towards a side street. From the highway that passes in front of the building, the passerby can simultaneously see all the automobiles exhibited on the different terraces. This building expresses an adjustment to the terrain’s gradient through a cascading roofline that slopes left and right. In this manner, the horizontal and vertical lines are articulated spatially.

The roofline offers adequate protection from rain and sun, assisted by eaves, sunshades, and visors. With these elements, the roof’s overhang is extended for a better response to the climate. On the northern side, elongated light entrances help create an homogeneous, controlled lighting that floods the entire showroom. The roof appears as a great unifying element favoring a visual link between the different levels. Whether looking upward or downward, the spatial continuity between the Bank’s vestibule and the Showroom is clearly acknowledged. The building’s structure was designed using slim metal elements with the intention of expressing weightlessness. Surrounded by coffee plantations and trees, the building easily relates to the architecture of the coffee mills traditionally constructed in the area, which proved to be the source of inspiration.
