The Escazú hills are a part of the Costa Rican protected areas and thus, jealously guarded. The mountains are characterized for their strong gradient and spectacular views of the city; in addition, other nearby mountains play an interesting mirror game.
Generally, these mountains have a thin topsoil atop a rocky and heterogeneous stratum in its structural consistency. This factor imposed a condition of lightness for this cabin. As such, its structure, walls and cover are metallic. In addition, due to the fact that this construction is located in a place of difficult access, reachable only through a road for 4X4 vehicles, it was designed with light and small-scale elements, for ease of transportation to the work site. Galvanized iron undulated sheets and cold-formed rolled steel sections were chosen, since these meet the conditions required. The floors are made of wood and the size of the glass panels is easily handled by two installers. This bachelor cabin consists only of a basic floor plan: bedroom, bathroom, living/dining/kitchen, balcony and storeroom. There was a reduced budget to consider.
The Costa Rican hills are usually dotted with small constructions that can be seen from afar. These may be coffee receiving stations, small stables, shelters to protect from the rain, or simply small farmers’ huts.
