The Friedlander house was purchased by the Gilmore family in 1999, and they requested that a partial remodeling be done. This house, built in several stages back in 1979 as an expansion to an old rural home, was remodeled in 1998.
The objective here was to bring back the original design concepts to maintain the openness of the interior spaces. Thus, several walls were demolished and the kitchen area and family room were redesigned. This project constituted an opportunity to reassert the 1979 design and complete the architectural aspects that have embellished the home and its use.
In this second phase, there is continuity in the materials used in the first phase, as well as continuity in the architectural concepts. The clay tile floor, the wooden plank-and-beam ceilings, the walls and columns in structural brick, all give the home a tranquil ambiance. The subdued, cool semi-darkness of the indoors invites to peaceful serenity.
